It is wise. It is majestic. It is an owl.
According to Native Indian culture, owls have always been considered to be wise. Today we still portray this by making the owls in cartoons to be the smart characters. Chi Omega, a well-known sorority all over university campuses, uses the owl as their symbol because they consider themselves to be the smartest girls on campus.
Ever since I was little I have been obsessed with owls; I could tell you everything and anything about every species. I would write stories about them, read books about them, and even watch documentaries. Even though they are animals, I feel a connection between us. I remember sitting in the middle of the forest one night camping in Florida, and everything was quiet except for one little owl hooting in the night. The hooting intrigued me, so I did some research. Many Native Americans associated the owl to be a death omen; even hearing the hoot of an owl would be considered a bad omen. Not only the way that they talk is majestic, but if you watch them in flight it is amazing to look at. They glide through the night looking for the smallest of creatures. Owls have always been a part of my life, and even though there are not many in South Alabama I still consider myself to be connected to them.
